What is recycled polyester fiber

What is recycled polyester fiber

1. Classification of recycled polyester fiber

First of all, POLYESTER FIBERS are commonly known as POLYESTER. Referred to as "P" or "T", PET fiber is a synthetic fiber derived from polyester spun by polycondensation of organic diacid and dialcohol. PET fiber was invented in 1941 and is the first major variety of synthetic fiber at present.

Regenerated fibers are mainly divided into two categories: regenerated cellulose fibers and regenerated synthetic fibers.

Viscose fiber is the earliest regenerated fiber, and then there are new regenerated cellulose fibers such as Lyocell fiber, cellulose carbamate fiber, superconducting viscose fiber, kapok fiber and bamboo fiber.

Polyester fiber accounts for about 70% of the synthetic fiber, and the application of polyester in the bottle industry is rapidly expanding, so the reclaimed synthetic fiber is dominated by reclaimed polyester fiber.

2. Production technology of reclaimed polyester fiber

At present, reclaimed polyester raw materials mainly come from waste polyester bottle flakes, sheets, films, polyester blocks and waste silk in polyester production.

According to the regeneration principle, the preparation methods of reclaimed polyester fiber can be divided into physical method, chemical method and physical chemical method.

The physical method

Physical method refers to the regeneration method of melting spinning of waste polyester material directly as raw material after sorting, cleaning and drying.

Chemical method

Chemical process refers to the process of using chemical reaction to depolymerize waste polyester materials into polymeric monomers or polymeric intermediates, and then carry out regeneration polymerization and melting spinning after purification and separation. The current chemical recovery technologies in the market include glycolysis, methanol decomposition and alkaline hydrolysis.

Physicochemical method

The physical and chemical method is to pulverize and clean polyester waste (waste bottle pieces), and make recycled chemical fibers by increasing stickiness in the spinning process. Physical and chemical methods combine the advantages of physical and chemical methods.

3. Recycled polyester fiber and GRS certification

Terminal enterprises must have GRS certification for recycled polyester fiber. So what is GRS certification, obtain GRS certification need to have what conditions?

What is GRS certification?

The so-called GRS certification is abbreviated for textile and Apparel Global Recycling Standard and has been certification standards developed for regenerated fibers by Control Union Certifications (CU). In addition to regulating the source of raw materials, the verification standards also regulate the treatment of wastewater and the use of chemicals in the production process.

What are the GRS certification conditions?

GRS certification access conditions: certified product recycled component proportion ≥20%;

GRS logo& Label use and special declaration: the proportion of regeneration cost of production products is ≥50%

Requirements for GRS application:

If a company is applying for GRS certification, then upstream suppliers of recycled raw materials should also have GRS certification. The supplier shall provide GRS Compliance Certificate (SCOPE Certificate, referred to as SC) and Transaction Certificate (referred to as TC) when conducting the COMPANY's GRS certification. The reclaimed Material suppliers at the source of the supply chain are required to provide reclaimed Material Supplier Agreement and Reclaimed Material Declaration Form Declaration Form), on-site verification if necessary.

According to relevant information, Shenghong Group, Hengli Group, Shanghai Far textile Industry Co., LTD., Yizheng Zhongxing Environmental Protection Technology Co., LTD., Zhejiang Beauty new materials Co., LTD., Zhejiang Haili Environmental Protection Technology Co., LTD., Ningbo Dafa chemical fiber Co., Ltd. and other enterprises have successively obtained GRS certification.

4. Recycled polyester helps the environment

Regenerated polyester fiber is a kind of regenerated environmental protection fabric developed in response to the national strategic development for environmental protection. It has a wide range of uses, using recycled polyester fiber, can be made into a garment, a carpet, sofa, artificial lawn, geotextile, filter material, car parts and so on.

According to the data, every tonne of recycled products saved six tonnes of oil consumption and 3.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 200 trees in a year. At the same time, the performance of reclaimed polyester fiber is comparable to that of native fiber, and some performance is even higher than that of native fiber (such as the resilience, smoothness, and smoothness of reclaimed 3d filling staple fiber and other indicators). Therefore, no matter in terms of carbon emissions, social responsibility, or resource investment, the importance of recycled polyester fiber to human beings is beyond doubt.
